Anti-Radicalisation & Extremism
The Prevent strategy is the Government’s response to help counter the extreme ideologies that recruit vulnerable people and to offer guidance and support to those who are drawn to them. Much of the work is dominated by the opposing ideologies of far-right extremism (neo-Nazi) and violent Islamists (Al Qaeda, ISIS), although the strategy addresses all forms of extremism.
Local delivery of Prevent is aligned with Community Safety and Safeguarding; all communities are affected by violent extremism and those most vulnerable to the ideologies are the young, particularly through the use of the internet.
All staff have had Prevent training lead by Merseyside Police and are completing a Prevent Channel General Awareness module from which they receive a certificate of completion.

In response to the new government changes from 1st July 2015 Holy Family has included an additional section to the current whole school safeguarding policy. This is a direct response to the growing concern of radicalisation and extremism in Britain. When writing this appendix consideration and reference has been made to Local Authority guidance/Prevent Duty Guidance and Social Media Guidance. The PREVENT response will be included in all new safeguarding policies and practice at Holy Family. Additional information can be further accessed by using the Sefton LSCB website – Prevent Duty Guidance
As of 1st July 2015 Schools are required to play their role in tackling radicalisation and extremism. Schools must provide information and act if they are concerned about these issues.
In response the Safeguarding Lead and Head Teacher at Holy Family has attended Local Authority training in September 2015 (WRAP) provided by Merseyside Police Special Branch. There has also been whole school staff awareness from the Police (Monday 12th October) to allow all members of staff to gain access to the information and how schools can respond if required to do so. Staff have also completed the College of Policing Channel General Awareness module.
The school action is as follows if there is a concern.
