We believe that being numerate is a necessary life skill that will ensure our future generation is able to make correct life decisions, when faced with the many statistics and money issues that our students experience in the modern world. As such, we wish to raise standards and the profile of numeracy skills.

We provide students with weekly numeracy problems, during form time, and encourage students to participate in a termly challenge. High ability students extend their skills further by entering into the UKMT, which is an external maths competition. Students who come to us with less developed numeracy skills are given the opportunity to work 1:1 with an older student and are provided with an IXL account.

IXL is an online program that diagnoses a students’ numeracy skill set and then provides an individualised package, for the student to work through. Parents can also access this software, after spending an evening in the maths department, learning how the program works.
