Thursday 6th January – start of term for all pupils (Week B, 8.45am start)

Covid-19: Updates

Dear Parents,

I hope you are all well and I would to wish you all a Happy New Year and all the very best for 2022.

A few updates and reminders after announcements from the Department for Education over the holidays.

New - Face coverings

  • to be worn by pupils at all times whilst indoors at school including lessons, corridors, office areas, changing rooms, when queuing in the dining rooms and in the sixth form study areas (unless exempt).
  • to be worn on the school bus and on all public transport.
  • to be worn in shops on the way to and from school.

Please ensure your child brings a face covering to school until further notice (unless exempt). The school has a limited supply of masks and we will not be able to issue them to pupils on a daily basis.

New - Self-isolation guidance

  • The 10-day self-isolation period for people who record a positive PCR test result has been reduced to seven days in most circumstances.
  • Individuals may now take LFD tests on days six and seven of their self-isolation period and those who receive two negative test results are no longer required to complete 10 full days of self-isolation.
  • The first test must be taken no earlier than day six and the two tests must be taken 24 hours apart.
  • If both test results are negative and the positive case does not have a high temperature, he/she may end his/her self-isolation and return to school on day eight.
  • If the positive case does not take the LFD tests, he/she must self-isolate for the full 10 days.

I would encourage you to ensure your child takes LFD tests on days six and seven to enable a speedy return to school (provided he/she is symptom-free).

New - Close contacts of positive cases guidance

  • If identified as a close contact of someone with Covid-19, those who are fully vaccinated or aged below 18 years and six months should take an LFD test every day for seven days and continue to attend school as normal.
  • If they develop symptoms or have a positive LFD test result they should self-isolate and book a PCR test.
  • If the result of the PCR test is positive, the self-isolation guidance set out above will need to be followed.

January Examinations

Some pupils in Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 have public examinations scheduled for January 2022. These examinations will go ahead as planned and pupils should prepare accordingly.

Remote/online learning due to Covid-19 related absence

If your child is absent due to a positive Covid-19 test but they well enough to attempt school work, their teachers will set work for them on Class Charts and/or Teams.

Reminder - PE Kit

  • Pupils are expected to wear full PE kit on the days when they have Core PE (the days are in the table below).

  • Depending on the weather, your child may need to wear additional layers to keep warm or dry. For example, leggings/tracksuit bottoms or an upper body garment. We request that these are plain black. They also need to be appropriate for school, for example, no leggings with mesh areas.
  • There may be times when pupils get wet during PE lessons.  If there is a chance of this happening, they can bring additional shorts/ leggings/tracksuit bottoms (black) to change into.

Reminder - LFD Tests

Please continue to ensure your child routinely completes twice-weekly LFD tests at home. If your child has a positive LFD test result or is displaying Covid-19 symptoms, please do not send him/her to school. Instead, book a PCR test using the NHS website.

Reminder - Covid-19 vaccination

If your child has not yet taken up the opportunity to receive the Covid-19 vaccination, these can be booked via the NHS here.

Finally, I’m sure you will appreciate that things are changing all the time and I will keep you informed of any further updates as soon as I can.  If you need us at any time, please contact us and we will do all we can to help.  Thank you once again for your support.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Symes
